Our Plan

A phased approach to restoration, programming, and long-term sustainability

Phase 1

Stabilize & Prepare

  • Secure and weatherproof the building

  • Assess and plan remediation

  • Prepare for restoration work

Phase 2

Restore Section 1

  • Classrooms, labs, restrooms

  • Life-safety & accessibility

  • Reopen for daily use

Phase 3

Expand the Campus

  • Additional program areas

  • Larger community spaces

  • Long-term activation

Why Section 1 Comes First

Section 1 is the operational heart of the building. Restoring this area allows the Springfield Center to reopen safely and begin serving the community while additional phases are planned and funded.

Section 1 includes:

  • Administrative offices

  • Classrooms & learning labs

  • Community gathering areas

  • Restrooms

  • Primary access and circulation

This is how the building gets its front door back.

What Funding Actually Does

Programs Follow Space

As rooms are restored, programs begin.

Initial focus areas:

  • Digital literacy & workforce readiness

  • Youth innovation & creative technology

  • Arts education & cultural programming

  • Civil rights history & community memory

This ensures that every completed phase delivers immediate public benefit.

Built for the Long Term

A phased approach allows the Springfield Center to grow responsibly—matching restoration progress with operational capacity, partnerships, and funding readiness.

Each completed phase strengthens the foundation for the next.

Help reopen the Springfield School by supporting Phase One and the restoration of Section 1.
